Export Initiative Environmental Protection funding programme
Since 2016, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) has used its ‘Export Initiative Environmental Protection’ funding programme to help German green tech companies promote their ‘green’ innovations, products and services worldwide. Modern, efficient and resource-friendly technologies are not merely drivers for growth and innovation: they also help to improve environmental standards and disseminate environmental knowledge, and so improve the underlying ecological and living conditions for local populations.The Export Initiative Environmental Protection (EXI) focuses on supporting projects in countries with a strong demand for environmental and resource-efficient technologies and services.

Substantive project funding: environmental protection ‘Made in Germany’
The funding programme therefore aims to meet the global demand for German know-how, products and services in the green tech field. The Federal Environment Ministry provides targeted funding to German mid-sized green tech companies with the aim of ensuring that innovative, ‘Made in Germany’ environmental technologies achieve worldwide recognition. By supporting suitable infrastructures, the EXI projects help to implement green public services and environmentally compatible services. This enables funding activities to form a starting-point for market entry as well as helping to develop long-term partnerships.
Applications may be submitted by organisations, especially clubs and associations, as well as businesses working in trade and commerce, universities and non-university research institutions in Germany.
