GIZ
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
As a federal enterprise, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH assists the Federal Government in achieving its goals in international cooperation and sustainable development. Acting on behalf of the BMUV, the global project work of GIZ GmbH implements activities in relation to EXI worldwide in selected partner countries.
Who we are
As a service provider for international collaboration on sustainable development and international educational work, GIZ is involved in activities in around 120 countries focused on a livable future. With more than 50 years of experience gained across many fields within economic and labour development, energy and environmental topics, and the promotion of peace and stability, GIZ has become a trusted partner for the German Federal Government, institutions of the European Union, the United Nations, private enterprise and governments of other nations. GIZ works together with businesses, civil-society actors and scientific institutions, helping in this way to create a successful interplay of development policy and other policy or priority areas.
What we do
On behalf of the BMUV, the GIZ global ‘Worldwide Environmental Protection’ project supports the Export Initiative Environmental Protection in efforts to improve conditions for deploying innovative ‘Made in Germany’ environmental technologies.
Working with the measures as funded by EXI, GIZ builds technical and institutional capacities while implementing activities in the partner countries of India, Jordan, Malaysia, Thailand and Ukraine, and at a global level. Country-specific measures are embedded in the strategies of the target countries and support key environmental solutions, such as in the subject areas of circular economy, efficient use of resources, sustainable consumption, sustainable transport and reductions to air pollution.
This approach both prepares and supports the deployment of effective environmental protection measures. The focus is on knowledge transfer, pilot projects, sustainable business models, capacity building, environmental education and awareness-raising.
Thanks to the networking of public and private economic actors in the partner countries with German businesses, associations and institutions, funding-friendly legal, policymaking and administrative conditions are created, and markets developed, so that the expertise and technologies also available in Germany can be deployed worldwide to further the purposes of sustainable development. The global project plays a central role in the subsequent utilisation of knowledge and knowledge sharing with partner countries, feeding both their knowledge and insights back into the Export Initiative itself.
By establishing a competitive and sustainable environmental structure in the partner countries, the project makes an important contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development as targeted by the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The project builds on the experience, partnerships and successful implementation of the ‘Support for the Export Initiative Environmental Protection’ project, which ran from August 2019 to March 2023. The country modules as listed below relate to the previous phase of the project.
