In the first phase of the project (08/2019-03/2023), a regional waste strategy for Poltava was developed with a focus on sub-regional forms of cooperation in the region. This work included formalization of cooperation between municipalities, development of a regional strategy and municipal plans for implementation, as well as awareness raising and training activities. Link to the main milestones of this project in its first phase.
Based on the inter-municipal cooperation agreement signed between four partner municipalities in November 2022, it was possible to establish a municipal waste association called "Ecoservice-2022". In the second phase of this project, separate collection systems are to be introduced in the Poltava region on the basis of inter-municipal cooperation.
The necessary equipment for the start-up was procured in Ukraine and Germany and provided by GIZ on behalf of BMUV, including a mobile sorting plant, a waste collection vehicle, a loader, a baler, 470 containers and other tools and instruments.
The following activities are planned for the effective implementation of these measures:
- Implementation of a strategy for the introduction of separate collection systems and improvement of inter-municipal cooperation in relation to the integrated waste management plan.
- Campaign to raise public awareness
Building up the necessary personnel capacities within the framework of a targeted exchange of information with German waste management companies
Processing of results and experiences from pilot projects/technology transfer, dissemination to relevant public and private institutions (ministries, authorities, operators)
The project builds on the experience, partnerships and successful implementation of the "Supporting the Environmental Protection Export Initiative" project from 2019 to March 2023.
